How Do I...?

Get a Library Card

Moniteau County residents and surrounding counties are eligible for a Moniteau County Library Card. This card is honored at the Missouri River Regional Library in Jefferson City. You can get a FREE library card by coming to the library and filling out paperwork. The only thing we require is a Driver’s License.

Any minors under the age of 14 or 15+ who do not have a Driver’s License must have a parent or guardian be present in filling out the card and they must use their Driver’s License.

Anyone 18 years or older who does not have a Driver’s License can use their Social Security Number in place of their License.

An invalid Driver’s License or out of State License can be used to get a card. We do ask that anyone who uses an out-of-state license come back in when they receive a Missouri one!

We do not give Library cards to people just visiting family or friends in California and who do not live in any of the surrounding counties. We ask that you use your family or friends’ cards, but we must have their permission since they will have to pay for any damages or lost items.

Replacement Cards

If you’re lost your card do not worry! The library can look your name up in the computer system without it. We do NOT replace any lost cards.

Renew Books

There are four ways to renew any material you have. The first way is to call the library and we will be able to do it over the phone. The second way is to download Librista and you are able to renew up to three times before you are unable to renew the material. The third way is to message us on our Facebook page, and we will be able to see it after hours and able to do it as soon as we arrive at work. The last way is to come into the library and have us do it in person. You will not need to bring your material for this unless you have had the items for quite a long time. We do this to make sure that the items are not lost.

Fees for Overdue, Damaged, and Lost Items

The library does not do any overdue fees. We do ask that any damaged or lost items are paid before checking out other items. Items that are damaged may be salvageable and no payment is required. Lost items that are paid off, but later returned can receive a refund.

Lost items that cost more than $50 can be turned over to the Prosecuting Attorney for collection.

Returning a book from Afar

Many libraries will not be able to send our books to us, but if you move to the Kanas City area you can go to Mid-Continent Public Library, and they sometimes will. You may mail the books back if you move out of state.
